A Canadian real estate CEO and his two daughters were shot, while his wife was brutally attacked with a hammer during a “violent” home invasion at the family’s $2.1 million home.

MAC Group CEO David Morton and his family were assaulted in the early morning of Thursday, October 29, when three masked men broke into their property through their gated home on Hyde Park Circle, according to The Toronto Sun.

“There was a demand made for valuables from within the home – whether or not they escaped with anything is uncertain,” Toronto Police Inspector Kristy Smith said in an update on the case.

Morton, his daughters, Maggie Zohil-Morton and Cristina Zohil-Morton, and his wife, Doriana Zohil-Morton, were hospitalized after the terrifying incident. Authorities said that two of the family members are suffering “life-altering injuries,” and the other two are being treated for “non-life-threatening injuries.”

Police said that the intruders entered the family’s mansion through the rear door, and a fight broke out between the home invaders and the family members.

“A struggle ensued during this altercation in which the suspects fired their guns multiple times and one victim was struck with a hammer,” Smith said of the incident.

Morton, 75, and one of his daughters were shot in the leg, and the other was shot in the arm. Meanwhile, Doriana was the family member who was attacked with a hammer.

Authorities have not shared descriptions of the suspects, though police said the three intruders wore ski masks to conceal their identities. Following the attacks, the intruders fled the area in an SUV.

Police have not yet revealed if anything was stolen from the house during the invasion.

It is not currently known if there was a motive for the attack or why the suspects targeted Morton’s family, but police said they were likely looking to rob wealthy families that live in the neighborhood.

Smith described the neighborhood as an “affluent area where people would have things that are sought after would be the motivation for this.”

The family’s home includes many luxurious amenities such as a tennis court, in-ground pool and private gardens.

Following the attack, Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow publicly asked members of the community to share any information they may have about the incident.

“I am deeply troubled by the violent home invasion early this morning in the Bridle Path neighborhood. My thoughts are with the family and their loved ones, who are going through something no family should ever have to face. I am praying for their full recovery,” Chow wrote via X.

The MAC Group is a family-owned company that specializes in real estate, hospitality and corporate housing. In addition to Morton being the CEO, Doriana works as the company’s president.
