A Minnesota couple has been arrested after they allegedly sexually abused a missing 14-year-old girl, who police found in a cardboard box in their bedroom.
Angeline Olson and Andrew Olson have been charged with criminal sexual misconduct charges, according to records obtained by KARE. Andrew, 49, was also hit with an additional charge of three counts of possessing material of child sexual abuse.
Police first launched an investigation into the matter when the teenager was reported missing from her school on May 26, according to KATU. Officials first spoke to the girl’s father and they learned that she could have gone to a friend’s home.
Officers with the Oakdale Police Department went to the home and spoke with Angeline, 47, who denied that the teenager was at the residence. Angeline added that she would have driven her home if she had shown up there.
Police returned to the couple’s home around 1:30 a.m. on May 27 after neighbors reported that a nearly naked girl was seen standing outside with the couple.
“Next thing you know, a little girl comes running out of the house, half naked,” neighbor Teaira Vennes, who called the police, told KARE. “Then I noticed the woman, Angeline in the bushes, she comes out of the bushes, and she’s naked, her whole top half is just out.”
Officers then searched the home and found the girl in a cardboard box underneath a pile of clothes in the bedroom. Authorities said that they also found several photos that showed the girl performing sexual acts on the adults on Angeline and Andrew’s phones.
Following the discoveries, both Angeline and Andrew were arrested.
The incident has left neighbors in shock, with many people upset over what the couple allegedly did to the child.
“Just disgusting that people would do that to children,” Nathan Pierce said.
Pierce also told the outlet that he had called the police at least a dozen times regarding the Olsons since they moved into a nearby apartment complex four years ago.
“It’s not just another story, it’s another f***ing victim, it’s another little girl,” Vennes added. “After going through this, I couldn’t never imagine that happening to my daughter.”
The neighbors also claimed that the couple’s teenage children were taken away from their home earlier in the year by Child Protective Services. However, the girl kept going to their home. It has not yet been shared how they knew the victim.
It is not currently clear if either Angeline or Andrew have entered pleas following their arrests.
However, Andrew’s attorney, John Chitwood, told KARE that his “client is presumed innocent and looks forward to clearing his name where it counts: in court.”
The Oakdale Police Department confirmed to Us Weekly that they helped assist the Maple Police Department with the arrest. The Maple Police Department, who is handling the investigation, did not immediately respond to Us’ request for comment regarding the case.
