Pastor John-Paul Miller’s marriage to Mica Miller was dissected in Netflix’s docuseries Death of a Pastor’s Wife, though their marital problems have continued to come to light after a former church member alleged that he abused his late wife in several ways.

“It was sexual and mental abuse he was putting Mica through,” Bruna Pabon, a friend of Mica, claimed to People on Wednesday, September 9. “He wouldn’t let her sleep. He would splash water on her face and pull off the covers. She couldn’t take a trip because he couldn’t go two days without getting physical. He was basically using her for sex. That was the whole marriage.”

Pabon, 34, added that Mica initially strove to be an obedient wife, but her growing self-respect and desire for independence ultimately challenged John-Paul’s wishes.

John-Paul’s attorney did not immediately respond to Us’ request for comment regarding Pabon’s claims.

In Death of the Pastor’s Wife, which was released in August, several former followers of John-Paul, 47, claimed that he had harassed Mica for sex and demanded obedience from her in their marriage. Her siblings also claimed that he had forced her to be admitted to a mental hospital against her wishes.

The couple experienced many issues during their marriage, and Mica filed for divorce in April 2024. Two days later, she was found dead, and police determined she had died by suicide. Her death was later investigated due to her claims that she had been the victim of stalking in the months leading up to her death, and her husband became a suspect regarding the allegations.

John-Paul has not been charged in connection to Mica’s death, and authorities have maintained that she died by suicide. However, he was indicted on federal cyberstalking and false statement charges on December 17, 2025.

He was charged after being accused of interfering with Mica’s finances, placing tracking devices on her car, damaging her tires and posting a nude photo of her online. He has pleaded not guilty to both charges.

John-Paul is currently out of jail after posting bond. The case has experienced many delays, though the trial is expected to begin in October.

While John-Paul was accused of abusing Mica in the past, his attorney denied the allegations. “Our client refutes any report that suggests he ever abused his wife,” the attorney said in a statement in 2024, per People.
