A Missouri man has been arrested after he allegedly shot his roommate because her dog wouldn’t stop barking, reportedly claiming he intended to hit the pet instead.
Frank Forshee was arrested on Thursday, May 7, and was charged with first-degree domestic assault causing serious physical injury, armed criminal action and unlawful possession of a firearm, according to online records viewed by Us Weekly.
Forshee, 65, lived at a home in Hillsboro with another man and a woman at the time of the incident, according to a probable cause statement viewed by Law & Crime.
The other man claimed that Forshee had been on a “meth bender” in the days leading up to the shooting, causing him to act erratically and seemingly suffer “from mental health issues.”
Forshee allegedly threatened the woman with a gun the evening before the shooting as he fired off a round into the floor of their home.
On May 3, Forshee was arguing with the woman in her bedroom, which was also the living room, because he “was upset that the victim’s dog wouldn’t stop barking,” per the court document. Forshee allegedly “threatened the victim with a small, silver pocket knife, then went back to his bedroom.”
He reportedly returned with a .22 caliber dark revolver, which was believed to have been a Heritage gun. As the woman sat on her bed with the dog, Forshee allegedly “discharged a single round, striking the victim in the abdomen.”
The woman and the other man called 911, and deputies with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office reported to the home and determined that the bullet “entered through the right side of her abdomen and exited into her left calf.” The woman was then transported to the hospital, where she received treatment.
An investigation was launched into the incident, and authorities learned that Forshee had contacted a family member and “made comments that he would not go to prison and indicated he may harm himself.”
Negotiators got in contact with Forshee via text message and he reportedly wrote that he would “make the news” and that “law enforcement should come find him.”
One neighbor also told investigators that “Frank walked onto their property” while he held a gun “matching the description provided by the witness,” per the affidavit.
The neighbor claimed Forshee told him “he was holding the firearm while in an argument with the victim” and that he “attempted to hit the dog with the firearm and a round was discharged,” according to police.
“The residence was later processed and searched,” the probable cause statement continued. “The crime scene and evidence located was consistent with the witness’s statements.”
Forshee reportedly fled the area and wasn’t arrested until four days later on May 7. He is currently being held in custody without bond.
It is not currently clear if Forshee has entered a plea or retained legal counsel following his arrest. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office did not immediately respond to Us’ request for comment regarding the case.
