A former Texas high school athletic trainer was sentenced to five years in prison for sexually assaulting a 14-year-old student she treated in physical therapy for a broken arm, prosecutors said.

Lindsey Post, who used to work at McKinney North High School, pleaded guilty on October 16 to two counts of sexual assault of a child and improper relationship between educator and student, according to the Collin County Criminal District Attorney’s Office.

Following her plea, a jury deliberated on Post’s punishment this week, the office said in a Thursday, October 29, news release.

“This woman used her position as a high school athletic trainer to groom and sexually assault a student she was treating,” Collin County District Attorney Greg Willis said in a statement. “A jury sentenced her to five years in prison. Adults who abuse the trust placed in them by students will be held accountable.”

Post’s defense attorney didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment from Us on Friday, October 30.

Post, 36, met the McKinney North High School student in 2025, when the teen broke her arm and started seeing her for physical therapy, according to prosecutors.

Post gained the girl’s trust by allegedly grooming her, then she sexually assaulted her, prosecutors said.

The student told her parents about the abuse in January, leading to the parents alerting police.

McKinney police investigators discovered “inappropriate messages between Post and the victim,” the district attorney’s office said.

Post was arrested in January, per KDFW.

According to an arrest affidavit viewed by the TV station, the 14-year-old said Post had sexually assaulted her inside Post’s car in a neighborhood.

The girl’s parents brought a lawsuit against the McKinney Independent School District, alleging the sexual abuse happened between November 2025 and January 2026, the TV station reported.

“This student was taken off of campus multiple times in this person’s vehicle, Ms. Post’s, and that is where repeated instances of rape occurred, among other incidents on or off campus,” attorney Paul Herz, who represents the girl’s family, said in January, per NBC affiliate KXAS-TV.

Following Post’s arrest, she violated her bond conditions by calling the teen over the phone, according to prosecutors.

Post was fired from her school position in February, when school district officials said in a statement that “The district felt it was important to immediately and purposefully act regarding the alleged conduct underlying Ms. Post’s arrest,” CBS News reported.

Post is now required to register as a lifetime sex offender, the district attorney’s office said.
