It’s hard to plan anything in this economy, but a cheap and surefire way to relax and have some fun is by accessing the Prime Video app.
The streamer keeps on adding some great movies throughout May, with this weekend seeing two major additions to the platform’s library: Horizon: An American Saga Chapter 1 starring Kevin Costner and One Battle After Another, featuring Leonardo DiCaprio and Oscar-winner Sean Penn.
Watch With Us loves the 1980s, so we included an underrated comedy from that decade that’s perfect to watch over the Memorial Day weekend — The Great Outdoors, a vacation-from-hell comedy starring John Candy and Dan Aykroyd.
‘Horizon: An American Saga Chapter 1’ (2024)
Nobody makes big-screen Westerns anymore, save for one man — Kevin Costner. The Yellowstone star literally put his money where his mouth was when he bankrolled Horizon: An American Saga Chapter 1, an old-school historical epic that was largely ignored by the public when it debuted in June 2024. Yes, it’s long and takes its time, but it’s a worthy movie to watch, if only because there’s nothing else quite like it on streaming, flaws and all.
After the Civil War, the American West is still wide open — and dangerous to settle on. That’s why people flock to the new town of Horizon, Arizona, which promises law and order in a time and place ruled by chaos and violence. But soon Horizon’s settlers must deal with frequent raids by Native American tribes desperate to get their land back and bands of outlaws who are willing to slaughter anyone who gets in their way.
Horizon: An American Saga starts streaming on Prime Video on May 23.
‘One Battle After Another’ (2025)

HBO Max subscribers have been able to stream One Battle After Another for six months now, but now Prime Video members can also access one of 2025’s best movies. The critically acclaimed film stars Leonardo DiCaprio as Bob Ferguson, a former revolutionary who has been hiding from “The Man” for years now. The best thing about his life is his teenage daughter, Willa (Chase Infiniti), who is everything her father isn’t — smart, disciplined and hopeful to change her present to get the future they both want. But when one of Bob’s old enemies, Steven Lockjaw (Sean Penn), wants to kill Willa for mysterious reasons, Bob will have to put down his pot and save his daughter before it’s too late.
Winner of six Oscars, including Best Director for Paul Thomas Anderson and Best Picture, One Battle After Another is an overtly political film that’s also a blast to watch. Blending action, thriller and drama genres, the film feels urgent — it has something to say about America’s political environment, even though it takes place in an alternate world where fascism rules and revolutionary groups are still active. It’s also a surprisingly poignant father/daughter story, with a never-better DiCaprio playing a dad who begins to understand that the best thing he can offer his child is to let her go.
One Battle After Another starts streaming on Prime Video on May 23.
‘The Great Outdoors’ (1988)
Summer is just around the corner, and a good movie to watch to get ready for the sunny season is The Great Outdoors. Like most American families, all the Ripleys want to do is leave their worries behind and vacation at their beautiful lakeside cabin. But the best laid plans often go awry, as dad Chet (John Candy) finds out when his snobbish brother-in-law, Roman Craig (Dan Aykroyd), and his family decide to visit them. Chet can’t say no without being rude, so the two families have to play nice while living in the same cramped cabin for a couple of weeks.
The Great Outdoors is a broad comedy that also works as an escapist fantasy. The woodsy town the two families vacation in is gorgeous and probably out of reach for most families in 2026. The 1988 film is also very funny, especially when it lets Candy and Aykroyd cook. Candy’s sensible everyman clashes very easily with Aykroyd’s rich a-hole, and the comedic sparks fly high when these two characters clash and compete over who is the top dog among their group.
The Great Outdoors is streaming on Prime Video.
