Captain America covered for Spider-Man! Andrew Garfield was scheduled to present at the 2014 Oscars on Sunday, March 2, but mysteriously didn't show up. An insider tells Us Weekly that Chris Evans had to fill in at the last minute as a presenter instead.
"He got the call pretty much day of that he'd have to go on," a source close to the Captain America star tells Us. "Chris hadn't been planning on even going to the Oscars."
The Amazing Spider-Man actor Garfield, 30, was originally listed as one of the 46 stars presenting at Sunday's Academy Awards — and Evans, 32, was not.
Why Garfield was unable to present remains a mystery for now. Fortunately, Evans appeared to have no trouble taking over his duties, and looked handsome onstage in a black tux. The Avengers star introduced a video tribute to superheroes on stage.
