These two! Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani made sure their performance of “Go Ahead and Break My Heart” would be a memorable one at the 2016 Billboard Music Awards in Las Vegas on Sunday, May 22.
The country superstar, 39, and Stefani, 46, had eyes only for each other on stage. Shelton wore a custom Nikki Lund outfit as he rocked out on his guitar, while Stefani wore a silver sparkly dress. She ditched her trademark red lipstick for a more nude look and kept her blonde locks down. Following the performance, the lovebirds embraced as Shelton wrapped his arm around Stefani’s shoulder. (They previously performed the duet on The Voice May 9.)
Us Weekly broke the news last November that the couple were dating. The two fell for each other following each of their divorces. Shelton split from Miranda Lambert after four years of marriage in July 2015. One month later, Stefani and Gavin Rossdale, who had been cheating with their children’s nanny Mindy Mann, announced they were ending their 13-year marriage.
Stefani revealed how her recent collaboration with Shelton came to be during an appearance on Chelsea Handler’s Netflix series Chelsea. “The story is that he had written this song and sent it to me on my phone. He’s like, ‘I wrote this song.’ And I was like, ‘Whoa, what if I don’t like it? Huge turn-off!’ I listened to it and thought, Oh, my God, I love this. He said, ‘Write the rest of it,'” she explained on the May 18 episode.
Last week, Shelton opened up about his romance with Stefani during an interview with CMT’s Hot 20 Countdown.
“It’s not something anybody could’ve seen coming besides God, I guess, because it doesn’t look like it would make sense. All I can tell you is that it does. It just makes the most perfect sense for us and where we’re at in our lives,” he said. “I tell people all the time, ‘Gwen saved my life last year.’ She did. I think she’d probably tell you something similar about me.”
