Sam Claflin and Emilia Clarke tore through plenty of tissues on the set of their new romantic tearjerker, Me Before You.
“This is the first time I’ve done a film and didn’t need assistance crying,” admits Claflin, 29, who plays quadriplegic Will in the drama based on the 2012 novel by JoJo Moyes. (Clarke, also 29, stars as his caretaker Louisa.)
Off screen, the pair certainly enjoy a good sob story. While the Hunger Games alum, married to actress Laura Haddock, likes Notting Hill and The Notebook, Clarke prefers to binge-watch one particularly heartrending flick. “There’s one that really messes me up where I get, like, messy crying: Stepmom,” Clarke tells Us Weekly Video.
The Game of Thrones star can’t get over Julia Roberts’ performance in the 1998 drama. “You just see her cry, and she just gets this little crease, and that’s it,” Clarke says. “Beautiful tears fall from her beautiful face. She’s so hot, it’s ridiculous.”
Claflin and Clarke spill more in the video above — including who flubbed their lines the most and why Claflin was her caretaker on set.
