Caroline Kennedy and her son, Jack Schlossberg, only watched a brief scene from FX’s Love Story that was inspired by their family.
“I showed her a clip of her, and we were laughing so hard,” Schlossberg, 33, said on the Wednesday, April 15, episode of Katie Couric’s “Next Question” podcast. “The [actor] was freaking out and we’re just laughing so hard as if that’s how my mom acts.”
Schlossberg further pointed out that Love Story fans should remember that the show, which was based on Caroline’s family, is complete “fiction.”
Love Story tells the story of Caroline’s brother, John F. Kennedy Jr., as he falls in love with wife Carolyn Bessette Kennedy and up until their deaths in a fatal 1999 plane crash. Paul Anthony Kelly and Sarah Pidgeon portray the couple, while Grace Gummer and Ben Shenkman, for their parts, played Caroline and Edwin, respectively.
“I want to be clear that [I have] no problem with anyone who liked the show or watched it. I’m glad,” Schlossberg said. “My uncle John was so cool, and it’s not surprising that people, once they remember who he was, want to dress like him and be like him. He was awesome.”
He continued, “My issue is we have a lot of serious problems facing our country and my family, we’re not just celebrities [or] icons. These are public servants. … He was a very serious person, and so, to fictionalize and to sensationalize his romantic life without giving any credence to the serious things that he did.”

Jack is the son of Caroline, 68, and her husband, Edwin Schlossberg. (Caroline and Edwin, 80, also share daughter Rose, 37, and daughter Tatiana, who died in 2025 at age 35.)
“They had my dad dressed up in some plaid outfit. My dad’s the most stylish guy I’ve ever met, so it’s funny,” Jack added on Wednesday’s episode. “The two nicest, most dignified private people in the whole world who do nothing but help others, yeah, [they weren’t portrayed favorably]. Whatever, who cares. [It was a] stupid show.”
Love Story, which was produced by Ryan Murphy, was adapted from Elizabeth Beller’s biography of JFK Jr. and Carolyn.
“We had Elizabeth Beller’s book for reference, but we did face challenges [capturing certain moments],” executive producer Brad Simpson exclusively told Us Weekly in February. “They died so young, but we had enough information from people around them to know what the problems were in their marriage, what the tensions were, what the highs were, what the lows were.”
