Twitter user Jessica De Pierri shared a video on Wednesday, August 12, of her daughter sobbing after watching the devastating scene and tagged Wesley, 38, who portrayed the vampire. “My teenager seriously has a problem … lol,” she captioned the clip.

The Tell Me a Story star replied, “Hahaha this is too good!! Give her a hug from me and make sure she knows I am alive and well.”

Wesley also retweeted the video for his followers writing, “This is too funny.”

Somerhalder, 41 — who portrayed Wesley’s onscreen brother Damon — also responded to the post.

“I felt the same way kiddo! But then I realized oh wait, I just saw him yesterday… He’s still alive 😉 XO Damon,” he wrote to which Wesley responded, “You cried then as well but for the opposite reason.”

Stefan sacrificed himself in The Vampire Diaries series finale — which aired in March 2017 — so that Damon and their love interest, Elena (Nina Dobrev), could be happy together.

Wesley explained on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen in December 2019 that he would have preferred a slightly different ending.

“I feel good about it [but] I honestly think both brothers should have died,” he said at the time. “I feel good about it, although I would have liked it if we both died and that Elena, the girl at the end of the show, all her memory was wiped and she went on to live a normal life and forgot that we ever existed. I think that would have been nice.”

Wesley added that he asked show creator Julie Plec to include Stefan’s death in the series finale.

“I was very happy that he died and I actually had requested that he die because he did a lot of bad things and I felt like he deserved death,” the actor said.

Although the love triangle between Elena, Damon and Stefan was the center of the CW show, Wesley and Somerhalder believe the brothers’ relationship was even more important.

“Ian always says that the greatest romance on the show is the two brothers. And I agree with that in many ways,” the New Jersey native said. “Just because it was not a sexual romance, it was still a romance.”
