One of the year’s most anticipated movies is killing it at the box office right now – and shows no signs of stopping.
The Odyssey, Christopher Nolan’s epic take on Homer’s ancient Greek poem, grossed $123.5 million at the domestic box office last weekend and is expected to remain No. 1 this weekend.
Almost everyone who has seen the Matt Damon-led film has loved it, and some are asking one question: When and where will The Odyssey be available to stream at home?
Watch With Us has all the details so far about the film’s possible digital release date and when it’s likely to be available to stream.
Is Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’ Streaming Now?

No. Theatrical movies rarely get a day-and-date release on digital and streaming platforms in 2026. COVID-19 made that practice popular with studios in 2020 and 2021, but with most of the population vaccinated and film fans flocking to theaters, it’s not needed anymore.
When Will ‘The Odyssey’ Be Available to Stream?

No streaming date has been announced yet, but history can give you some idea when to expect The Odyssey to be available to stream. Most films tend to hit streaming platforms around 60 days from their release date. If a film flops, that date accelerates to around 45 days.
Nolan is unique – he believes in the theatrical experience and has advocated for his films to remain in theaters as long as possible. In a March 2020 op-ed in The Washington Post, Nolan wrote,
“We need what movies can offer us. Maybe, like me, you thought you were going to the movies for surround sound, or Goobers, or soda and popcorn, or movie stars. But we weren’t. We were there for each other.”

That’s why his last movie, the Oscar-winning biopic Oppenheimer, took so long to stream. Like The Odyssey, that film had a similar summer release date – July 21 vs. The Odyssey’s July 17 premiere date. Oppenheimer’s eventual streaming date was February 16, 2024, seven months after it was first released in theaters. That streaming date was timed to help the film’s Oscar chances when voters were deciding which films, actors and craftspeople to nominate.
Thus, it’s a safe bet to expect The Odyssey’s streaming date to be either in January or February 2027. It makes sense for Universal to maximize the film’s theatrical grosses while also timing the streaming release to help its Oscar odds.
Where Can You Stream ‘The Odyssey’ Once It Becomes Available?
Once it’s released, you can stream The Odyssey on Peacock. That streamer is owned by the same company that owns Universal Pictures, the studio that released The Odyssey. It will likely have an extended exclusive window before moving to other streamers like Prime Video (which Oppenheimer did in 2024).
When Can You Rent or Buy ‘The Odyssey’?

Again, to get an idea of when you can digitally rent or purchase The Odyssey, all you have to do is look at Oppenheimer. That film became available on PVOD platforms like Apple TV, Google Play, Fandango and Amazon Prime Video four months after its July theatrical release date.
If history repeats itself, The Odyssey will likely be available to rent or purchase sometime in November 2026. That timing is perfect for anyone struggling to come up with a gift for a friend or family member who is a true-blue movie fan.
