“It’s a very humbling, very honoring feeling in being recognized for what I do and for who I am and showing, not just my work in the industry but showing my advocacy as well,” Brewer, 34, told Us Weekly. “A lot of my advocacy that I do also shows within TV and film.”

The actress then went on to explain how she actively helps and supports those in her community. “I’ve been helping quite a lot with where I live,” she gushed. “I give advice to a lot of people not to be afraid of who you are, always using your voice to ask for help, even if you need it or not.”

As for the advice she would give to those around her? “Listen to the encouragement of friends and family, even though you may not agree with they’re saying, but to keep what they’re saying in mind because they are reminders,” she noted. “I don’t let challenges become challenges. I see more opportunities than challenges.”

The Turnover star also offered some words of wisdom for those who are struggling to break into the entertainment industry. “Never be afraid,” she asserted. “Use your voice to ask for help if you need it — and listen to the heart of everyone around you, because they’ll surprise you.”
