Still holding out! Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen may yet return to the Tanner residence down the road. John Stamos revealed during the Today show on Thursday, March 3, that the door is always open for the sisters to join season 2 of Fuller House.
“They’re totally welcome,” Stamos, 52, told Today cohost Matt Lauer. “I was going to see Ashley last night and beg her to be on the show. We would love to have them. I know everyone would love to see them. I have a good feeling about it.”
The Olsen twins declined to reprise their role as Michelle Tanner in the first 13-episode installment of Netflix’s Full House revival, much to the disappointment of fans. The cast addressed their absence head on in the show’s first episode, which premiered on Friday, February 26. (Danny Tanner’s Bob Saget said that Michelle was in NYC building her fashion empire, much like the stars in real life.) After the quip, the entire cast turned to look at the camera in a knowing wink to the audience.
Despite Michelle’s absence, Fuller House has been well received by most fans. It was renewed for a second season on Wednesday, which made Stamos (also a producer on the series) very pleased.
“I was nervous. We did the shows, and they were very sweet and cute. I was worried because the anticipation really built up from the time we finished to the time we aired,” he told Lauer. “People are happy with it. It’s so sweet. I’m very grateful. It’s comfort [for people].”
