It’s a Bayside-Rydell crossover! Mario Lopez is the latest celeb to join the already star-studded cast of Fox’s upcoming Grease: Live, Deadline reports.
The Saved by the Bell alum, 42 — who appeared in Broadway’s A Chorus Line back in 2008 — will play Vince Fontaine, host of the TV teen dance show that comes to Rydell’s gym. (Who can forget the iconic “Born to Hand Jive” scene?) Edd Byrnes originated the part in the 1978 movie, which also famously starred John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John.
News of the Extra host’s casting comes just a few weeks after Carly Rae Jepsen made headlines for snagging the role of Frenchy. “Tell me more, tell me more!” the “Call Me Maybe” singer, 29, tweeted of the announcement in late September.
Lopez and Jepsen will star alongside other previously announced celebs including Julianne Hough and Aaron Tveit (as lovebirds Sandy and Danny), Vanessa Hudgens (as Pink Ladies ringleader Rizzo), Keke Palmer (as Marty), Carlos PenaVega (as Kenickie), Kether Donohue (as Jan), and David Del Rio (as Putzie).
Grease: Live is set to air on Fox on Sunday, Jan. 31, 2016, at 7 p.m. ET.
