‘Marriage Boot Camp: Reality Stars’ Recap: Jade Roper Tells Husband Tanner Tolbert She’s ‘Disgusting’ and a ‘Burden’

Sometimes our biggest enemies are ourselves. This was the lesson on the Friday, December 2, episode of Marriage Boot Camp: Reality Stars, during which the couples had to face all of the terrible things they told themselves on a daily basis. It was an emotional day for everyone, but most especially Jade Roper, who revealed some deep-seated self-esteem issues that were clearly taking a toll on her marriage.

Jade Considers Herself “Disgusting”

As the self-reflection began, Jade admitted she was nervous. “It’s scary that I have to face the truth,” the Bachelor in Paradise alum said. “That I’m insecure, and that’s my struggle.” She went on to call herself “disgusting” and confessed, “I always feel like I’m a burden to people because I’m insecure.”

As for her husband, Tanner Tolbert said he was “scared of getting a divorce.” He then told the experts that “half the reason” why he shut them out was because they kept telling him Jade was going to leave him. “That’s scary,” he revealed. “Me and Jade did rush into a relationship.” It’s true that the two met on a spinoff reality dating show in Mexico and got engaged after a whirlwind romance, and Tanner now seemed to be feeling the impact of the fact that they’d “skipped” some steps.

Amber and Jim Break the Bed

Meanwhile, Amber and Jim Marchese were working through her issues with sex (which stemmed from the fact that Amber lost her virginity by being raped at a party in high school). After an emotional confrontation with her past, Amber seemed determined to give herself completely to her husband — who was beyond thrilled.

As they woke up, Jim proudly flung the mattress to the side to show Amber that they had, in fact, broken the bed the night before. Amber was delighted to have achieved this … umm … “milestone,” and Jim went downstairs to brag to the rest of his housemates about his sexual prowess.

Things Heat Up Between Nikko and Margeaux — and Merika

Fearing that she was losing Margeaux to Nikko, Merika downed her sorrows in a bottle of whiskey — a whole bottle of whiskey, in fact. The next morning, she was feeling a tad hungover, to say the least, which made her that much less prepared to deal with the situation at hand. She moaned in bed while Nikko made a play for Margeaux, planting a kiss on her as they chatted in the backyard. “Let’s keep that there,” Margeaux said as she gently pushed him off.

Later, Merika demanded to know what had happened between them, but Margeaux downplayed it (by a lot). Then she said she loved that Merika was so honest and a real “girlie-girl,” even though she tried to seem tough.

In between all of that love-triangle drama, Margeaux kept feuding with Keke Wyatt. For whatever reason, these two were just oil and water and couldn’t stand to be in the same room. “I express my anger with picking people up and body-slamming them,” Keke explained in a mild threat to Margeaux. Margeaux responded by calling Keke a “rude baby.” They then argued about whether Keke was misunderstood or not. Sigh.

Jade and Tanner Get Really Real

Later, it was Jade and Tanner’s turn to open up about their inner thoughts (again). “I hate that I’m not enough. I hate that I’m a disappointment,” Jade began as she took a baseball bat to a piñata shaped like a black heart. “I hate that I’m a burden to people. I hate that I have too much anxiety. I hate that I’m disgusting. I hate that I’m always beating myself up and punishing myself.”

Tanner was up next. “I hate that I’m selfish. I hate that I’m scared of getting a divorce. I hate that I can’t show emotion,” he said. He then turned to Jade and said hearing her talk badly about herself was the “hardest part” of the exercise for him. “I don’t know why she sees herself that way,” he lamented before offering some uplifting words to his wife.

“I want you to forget all that shit that you wrote down because it’s just not true,” he began. “I love that you are the most beautiful woman that I’ve ever seen. I think everyone can attest to your sweetness … and I love that you’re so affectionate with me.” Jade returned the compliments, telling him, “I love that you’re strong. I think you’re sexy. I love that you’re committed and dependable.”

Tanner then promised to love her forever.
