Another little spy is on the way! Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys took part in a press event for their FX series, The Americans, on Saturday, January 16, where Rhys offered a hilarious response when asked how the couple’s real-life pregnancy would impact the spy drama’s story lines.
A reporter at the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour in Pasadena, California, asked The Americans‘ team whether the news of Russell’s pregnancy had affected the writers’ plans for the upcoming season. In the acclaimed series, Russell, 39, and Rhys, 41, play a pair of Soviet KGB officers pretending to be an American married couple.
“No, it did not,” said the Cold War drama’s co-showrunner Joel Fields. “We actually haven’t made any changes based on the happy news, except we’re happy.”
Rhys then quipped, “And she’s now incredibly effective with a blow dart from a seated position at 12 meters.” After the audience laughed, Fields added, “It hasn’t impacted story.”
Russell did not respond to the question but chuckled at Rhys’ response. This is the first time that the couple have publicly addressed their bundle of joy.
Us Weekly exclusively broke the news earlier this month that Russell is expecting a baby with her costar, with a source telling Us at the time that the pregnancy is four months along. The actors were first seen publicly as a couple in NYC in April 2014.
