An irresistible Jessica Simpson documentary is coming to Netflix.
The streaming service announced on Thursday, August 20, that Robbie Williams director Joe Pearlman will helm an upcoming feature on Simpson, 46. The doc, coming in 2027, will see the Newlyweds alum invite “cameras back in to tell all,” according to Netflix’s Tudum.
The project will be produced by former MTV boss Van Toffler and executive produced by Pearlman, Gunpowder & Sky and Jonathan Silberberg.
Pearlman is a BAFTA-, Emmy- and Grammy-nominated documentary filmmaker. He previously directed Lewis Capaldi: How I’m Feeling Now for Netflix and Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts for HBO Max. Additionally, he led Mourinho, a three-part documentary about former Chelsea soccer manager José Mourinho, for Netflix earlier this month.
Simpson released her debut studio album, Sweet Kisses, in 1999. The project sold 2 million copies in the United States, while the lead single, “I Wanna Love You Forever,” reached No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
The singer’s second studio album, Irresistible, arrived in 2001, with the title track peaking within the Billboard Hot 100’s Top 20.
Simpson went on to release five more albums: In This Skin (2003), ReJoyce: The Christmas Album (2004), A Public Affair (2006), Do You Know (2008) and Happy Christmas (2010).
Amid her music career, Simpson became a reality TV star with her and then-husband Nick Lachey’s MTV series, Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica, which aired from 2003 to 2005. (Simpson and Lachey, 52, were married from 2002 to 2006.) The “I Wanna Love You Forever” singer also launched a fashion brand in the early 2000s and published her memoir, Open Book, in 2020.
After a 15-year hiatus from music, Simpson made her return to the industry last year with her EPs Nashville Canyon: Part 1 and Part 2. The releases came after the author’s split from husband Eric Johnson after nearly 11 years of marriage. (Simpson and Johnson, 46, share kids Maxwell, 14, Ace, 13, and Birdie, 7.)
“#NashvilleCanyon is the result of learning to hear my heart again, free from industry expectations,” Simpson wrote via Instagram in March 2025. “It’s about surrendering, letting my voice be my main guide, and trusting the journey ahead. Always inviting God into the room where music creates itself, with a voice that communicates on a spiritual level of grace without fear and allowing the music to be my main voice.”
Since her split from Johnson, Simpson has moved on with boyfriend Tom Eisenhood, whom she began dating earlier this year.
“Tom was on tour with Jessica on and off for the past few months,” a source exclusively told Us in June, adding that the Nashville-based audio engineer, who was previously a member of the band Stoop Kids, has “been in the music industry for a long time.”
“He tours a lot, so they spent a lot of time together by working closely,” the insider added. “He is a very low-key guy and Jessica likes that about him.”
