Robert Pattinson has already headlined one major franchise — why join another?

Though he was once rumored to be in contention for the role of Finnick in Catching Fire, the highly-anticipated sequel to The Hunger Games, Pattinson, 26, won't be joining Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth onscreen.

"I woke up this morning and saw all these things about me being cast in The Hunger Games," Pattinson told USA Today Saturday. "I was kind of curious for a second, so I called my agent."

"My agent was like, 'No one's going to offer you that part,'" the Twilight star laughed. "I was like, 'Thanks for the reassurance!'"

Pattinson may not be in the running, but according to E! News, Lionsgate has narrowed its casting down to three hot young stars: The Social Network's Armie Hammer, 25, Battleship's Taylor Kitsch, 31, and Country Strong's Garrett Hedlund, 27. The studio may announce its pick as early as this week.

Directed by Francis Lawrence, Catching Fire will begin filming this fall. The movie will be released in theaters November 22, 2013.
