Move over Rosie and Whoopi — there are two new girls in town! Rosie Perez and Nicolle Wallace have both released statements on joining the upcoming season of The View one day after ABC officially confirmed the news on Thursday, Sept. 4.
"I am beyond thrilled, honored and completely surprised that I've been asked to join The View," Do the Right Thing star Perez said in a statement. "Knowing that I'll be in the company of Whoopi [Goldberg], Rosie [O'Donnell] and Nicolle, three very smart and engaging women that I have an immense amount of respect for, makes it even more unbelievable. The opportunity to connect with our nation's audience on a daily basis…icing on the cake! Very happy."
Political commentator Wallace similarly couldn't be more excited to join the daytime talk show. "I am honored to join the tradition of compelling conversations that has been the signature of The View for the better part of two decades," she said. "I have watched The View for many years and now to be seated alongside three women that I have admired is both humbling and incredibly exciting."
The network has high hopes that the newcomers will bring something different to the table. (Newlywed Jenny McCarthy and Sherri Shepherd exited the program last month; den mother Barbara Walters departed in May.)
"These are powerful and accomplished women from different walks of life who have had amazing personal and professional experiences," the network said. Executive Producer Bill Wolff added: "Each brings incredible perspective and information to the table. This mix of smart, vibrant and energetic women is unlike anything else on daytime television."
The new season of The View premieres live at 11 a.m. EST on Monday, Sept. 15 on ABC.
