The season 3 finale of Sleepy Hollow took no prisoners on Friday, April 8, and fans of the supernatural Fox series aren’t too happy about the sudden turn of events.
WARNING: Spoilers to the season 3 finale below.
In a shocking plot twist, agent Abbie Mills (Nicole Beharie) sacrificed herself in order to stop The Hidden One (Peter Mensah), an ancient god who was on the warpath for power.
Mills led the show alongside time traveler Ichabod Crane (Tom Mison), so fans are stumped as to where the series can possibly go from here.

Been a long time since I watched Sleepy Hollow, but when I liked it, it was for the interplay of the leads. Sounds like a big mess now.

Showrunner Clifton Campbell explained the writers’ reason for losing one of its main characters, telling Entertainment Weekly that he didn’t view the death as “killing off Abbie.”
“[Beharie’s] relationship with Tom and obviously with Crane has been instrumental to the development of the show,” he said. “As with a lot of genre shows, as television matures and evolves, it becomes important to recognize the frailty of characters, particularly in a world such as ours, and it’s unrealistic to think that shows can live and breathe on one note.”
As for what the upcoming season will bring, Campbell said the creators have some ideas up their sleeves.
“We feel like we’ve got some story to be told yet, certainly, with Ichabod Crane and the modern world,” he said. “We have a wide open field, and there’s been a lot of talk already.”
