Olivia Rodrigo appears to be reflecting on the early days of her romance with Louis Partridge in her new song, “Drop Dead.”
Rodrigo, 23, released the debut single from her third album, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love, on Friday, April 17.
“I love this song so much!!! It’s the first chapter in the story of You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love and it makes me wanna skip around and roll the windows down and make out!” Rodrigo wrote on Instagram about the track. “I was lucky enough to film the music video at the palace of Versailles a few months ago with the wonderful @petrafcollins and I’m so stoked with how it turned out. I hope you guys love it as much as I do xoxoxoxo.”
Rodrigo’s new album drops Friday, June 12, and if the single is any indication, fans can expect songs about love — and maybe a little bit of loss.
Upon the first listen of “Drop Dead,” fans were quick to notice some apparent nods to Rodrigo’s ex-boyfriend Partridge.
“Oh, one night I was bored in bed / And stalked you on the internet / It’s feminine intuition / ‘Cause I always had a vision of us standing like this,” she sings in the song’s chorus. “All pressed up in the bathroom line / You lookin’ like an angel on the walls of Versailles / The most alive I’ve ever been / But kiss me and I might drop dead.”
Rodrigo and Partridge were first linked in 2023, making their official red carpet debut in August 2024. It was widely reported in December 2025 that they had split.

Fans have pointed to several lyrics that seemingly imply Olivia Rodrigo’s “Drop Dead” is about her ex-boyfriend Louis Partridge.
“Pisces and a Gemini / But I think we might go really nice together,” the bridge reads. “If you let me stay the night / Well, I think I might just have to stay forever.”
Rodrigo is notably a Pisces, as noted in her Instagram bio reading “spicy Pices.” Partridge was born on June 3, 2003, which would make him a Gemini.
There’s also the Versailles of it all, which is where King Louis XIV lived — catch that subtle name-drop. Rodrigo seemingly refers to Partridge’s role in Netflix’s House of Guinness with a line about never finishing “that beer.” She also mentions The Cure’s “Just Like Heaven,” which she sang during her 2025 Glastonbury Music Festival set with Partridge in the crowd.
