She deserves a badge for her ingenuity! A girl scout named Elina Childs, stood outside a marijuana dispensary in Edmonton, Canada, on Wednesday, October 17, the same day pot was formally legalized in the country, and sold all of her cookies in less than an hour.
Seeing as how the wait to enter some dispensaries in Canada was as long as four hours, according to CNN, Childs, 9, was surrounded by both people waiting for their chance to buy some weed as well as those who were exiting the dispensary and likely in need of a tasty snack.
Given Childs’ strategic location, it should come as no surprise that the brownie sold all of her cookie boxes in about 45 minutes and made approximately $91. By contrast, Childs’ dad, Seann, told the outlet that it typically takes his daughter weeks to sell all of her cookies when she goes door-to-door, and there are other perils involved with that method as well.
“Last year, she got bit by a dog, it wasn’t bad but we were still apprehensive,” Seann explained, noting he and his daughter got the idea to sell cookies outside of a dispensary in Edmonton after noticing the long lines to get in.
Still, while Seann had a hunch his daughter would have a plethora of customers outside the dispensary, Elina didn’t fully comprehend what all of the fuss was about. ”She didn’t quite understand what the big deal was,” Childs said. “She was just selling cookies in her mind, but everyone was so happy to see her, and kept congratulating her.”
As the proud dad told CTV, “She did a fantastic job and was very polite and everyone was very polite with her.” Seann also explained that even though his daughter wasn’t familiar with marijuana, he used this as an opportunity to discuss it with her. “We talked about … what it was and what it means for people who want to use it and people who don’t want to use it,” he explained to CTV.
With Canada’s recent decision to legalize pot, there’s expected to be an influx of marijuana-laced food products. Coca-Cola is reportedly considering the release of a weed-infused drink, and multiple other beverage producers are talking with Canada-based companies about marketing cannabis drinks as well.
