Taco Bell is stepping up its sweet eats game! The Mexican food chain, which has long had a handle on savory foods such as quesadillas and nacho fries, is currently testing a sugary item that already has social media in a tizzy.
The new, limited-edition food offering, which is currently only available at Taco Bell locations in Kansas City, Missouri, is none other than a churro doughnut. The hybrid pastry rolled out on the breakfast menu in the midwestern city late last month and, as if you needed another reason to start drooling, boasts a price tag of only $1.
According to Delish, this new sweet treat is billed as “everything you know and love about a churro in the shape of a donut.” More specifically, the new food consists of a circular churro that has been deep-fried until it is golden brown and crispy. It’s then finished with a dusting of cinnamon sugar.
And although the warm, deep-fried eats are not currently available outside of Kansas City, a national release is definitely a possibility considering Missouri residents (and eager churro fans) are full of praise for these delectable desserts.
“Feeling very blessed that Taco Bell has decided that Kansas City is a worthy market to test the Churro donut,” tweeted one fan. Added another: “Hey @tacobell please test the churro donuts in my house.”
In fact, it appears this new addition is enough to entice even those who are trying to distance themselves from the fast-food chain. “Oh, @tacobell why do you torture me?” asked one Twitter user in reference to the churro doughnuts. “Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in …”
Not wanting to disappoint Taco Bell fans outside the Kansas City metro area, Thrillist reports the chain also announced the debut of $1 Loaded Nacho Tacos, which are now available nationwide as part of the company’s ever-expanding value menu. The tacos are made with a tortilla that’s filled with seasoned beef, nacho cheese sauce, lettuce, cheddar cheese and new Southwest Seasoned Chips – red tortilla strips seasoned with lime, tomato and garlic.
If you’re looking for something a bit more hearty, the Double Beef Quesarito is bound to do the trick. The meat-packed new menu item, which is currently being tested at locations in Charlotte, North Carolina, features a burrito with beef, seasoned rice, cheddar cheese, sour cream and chipotle sauce that is then wrapped in a seasoned beef quesadilla.
