It seems like Beyoncé can’t do it all. According to her mother, Tina Knowles Lawson, the 22-time Grammy winner isn’t very skilled in the kitchen.
“Beyoncé can’t cook,” the fashion designer, 65, told Us Weekly and reporters at the National CARES Mentoring Movement’s For the Love of Our Children Gala on Monday, February 11. Her sister Solange, though, knows how to whip up a thing or two. Lawson added: “There’s no contest!”
The “Lemonade” singer, 37, has even admitted cooking as her weakness before. “I don’t cook much,” she told Cosmopolitan in 2006. “But I’m good at spaghetti and sandwiches. I know they’re easy, but they’re my specialty.”
However, one thing she is skilled at doing in the kitchen? “I’m a really good taste-tester,” the former Destiny’s Child alum joked to the New York Times in 2015.
While cooking isn’t her strong point, Lawson always knew her daughter was going to be a star. “At 7 years old, she did a talent show, she was very shy and she went out and got a standing ovation,” the Destiny’s Style author recalled. “And she said, ‘I just want to get my trophy because I’m hungry, and go home.’ And I’m like, ‘You don’t know if you won.’ But she did.”
She also thinks that Beyoncé, as well as Solange, are great at being moms. “They are amazing parents,” she gushed. “I’m most proud of the type of parents they are.”
Beyoncé shares Blue Ivy, 7, and twins Sir and Rumi, 20 months, with husband Jay-Z. And Solange is mom to 14-year-old son Daniel Jr. with ex-husband Daniel Smith.
“They are truly authentic and themselves, no matter what,” Lawson continued. “I taught them to change the world, don’t let it change you.”
