Travis Kelce has arrived at Kansas City Chiefs training camp for the 14th time in his career, but for the first time as a married man.
The tight end walked into camp in St. Joseph, Missouri on Wednesday, July 29, with his uniform on and helmet in hand as fans cheered him on, as seen in video shared by the team via X.
One Chiefs fan could be heard shouting “Congratulations!” at Kelce, 36, as he made his way to the field.
Kelce is less than a month removed from his star-studded Madison Square Garden wedding to Taylor Swift. The wedding, which around 1,000 people attended, has sparked endless intrigue as guests remained tied to their NDAs.
While details have been scarce, longtime sports broadcaster Joe Buck gave some insight into Kelce’s emotions during an appearance on the “Starkville” podcast.
“Travis was a puddle watching his nieces come down the little ramp that they built,” he said on the Saturday, July 25 episode. “When [Swift] walked out, he was a puddle.”
Buck, 57, added, “It felt like they were really getting married. It wasn’t just a ceremonial thing. … Meaning that they hadn’t been married before. I think when they took everybody’s phone and everybody could relax and I’m standing next to Beck, which is an artist I love — it’s [Joe’s wife] Michelle [Beisner-Buck], Beck [and] whoever he was with watching Paul McCartney sing ‘I Wanna Hold Your Hand’ for the first time publicly since 1964? It was a pinch-yourself kind of night.”
After the wedding, Kelce and Swift, 36, temporarily receded from the spotlight, enjoying their first weeks as newlyweds. As training camp approached, Kelce’s teammate and friend, quarterback Patrick Mahomes, gave Chiefs fans plenty to be excited about regarding their veteran tight end.
“Obviously he has the physical gifts; to go out there and be that size with that speed and elusiveness and catch the football,” Mahomes, 30, said during a July 15 appearance on Yahoo! Sports Daily. “But I think what makes him who he is — the leader, the person that he is — the teammates around him want him to succeed because he’s going to give everything he has to the guys around him.”
Kelce is already on the fast-track to the Hall of Fame, but elected to come back for another season after the Chiefs’ disappointing 2025 campaign. Reflecting on his potential retirement before Kansas City’s Christmas Day game against the Denver Broncos, he insisted that he will know when the right time is to hang it up.
“I feel like I have a lot of love for this game,” he said. “If I came back it’d just be to answer that flame that I still love this thing. If it was just Sundays, I could play till I was 50. Obviously, there’s so much that goes into it. Arrowhead being Arrowhead, the atmosphere [and] playing in front of them, those will be memories that I cherish [when] I’m old and gray. … It’s special, man, and I love playing for them.”
