Kimberly Brown, the wife of former BYU running back Curtis Brown, reflected on the drowning death of her son Haze, 2, as her other four children began their school years.

“They are the strongest people I know. Right here. 🤍,” Kimberly shared via Instagram on Thursday, August 20, alongside photos of her 13-year-old triplets, Julie, Cruze and Kash, and son Trey, 12. “I should be their rock right now – but somehow– they are mine.”

Kimberly and Curtis’ son Haze was pronounced dead on July 26 after being found unresponsive in the family’s pool at their home in Clovis, California.

“Cruz, Kash and Julie started 7th grade at a brand new school – and Trey is officially a big 6th grader on campus,” she continued. “I’m so proud of them. So proud of the way they keep moving forward – even when our world feels completely shattered.”

Kimberly continued, “But there is one person missing from this picture. And we feel that missing piece every second.”

With her four children returning to a sense of normalcy, Kimberly said she keeps “thinking about the end of the school day.”

“I was looking forward to the moment they would walk through the door,” she wrote. “I knew Haze would light up the second he saw them. But what I’m realizing now is that they would have lit up even brighter to see him. He was their baby. Their little shadow. Their favorite person.”

The post concluded, “And now they come home – and he isn’t here. Nothing feels the same without him. I don’t know how we’re supposed to do this – but we’re doing it together. And I’m so grateful for these kids who keep reminding me that even in the deepest heartbreak – there is still so much love here. 🤍”

Kimberly broke her silence about Haze’s death in an emotional social media post on Saturday, August 15.

“I miss my baby,” Kimberly wrote via Instagram. “I miss him so much it physically hurts. Our bright light and source of pure joy is gone. I’m writing this from the floor of his room, surrounded by his things. Looking at all the little pieces of him that are still everywhere. His clothes. His basketball hoop. His blanket. All the things that were just part of our everyday life.”

She added, “I keep expecting to hear him. To see those soft curls bouncing as he runs. To hear his little laugh. To squeeze him tight. To kiss his cheeks. To tell him I love him. And then I remember. I don’t know how you survive this. I don’t know how I’m supposed to wake up every morning and live my worst nightmare. I don’t know how a heart is supposed to hold this much pain.”
