Former NFL player and “Bussin’ With the Boys” podcast cohost Will Compton defended his decision to bring his sick daughter to his brother Cody’s wedding.
Compton, 36, revealed that his daughter Scottie, 17 months, contracted hand, foot and mouth disease before the ceremony.
“Didn’t sleep last night because our youngest has HFMD,” Compton posted via X on Friday, May 8. “Cried all night (we both did). Family traveled 5 hours to Missouri earlier for my brothers wedding this weekend — Scottie screamed bloody murder for 3 of those hours because her feet itched so badly.”
He added, “We are in hell right now, men.”
Will and his wife, Charo, share daughters Scottie and Cerulean Belle, 4.
The decision for the entire family to attend the wedding despite the child contracting a highly contagious virus did not sit well with at least one vocal follower of the popular podcast host.
“By no means am I father of the year but this may be one of the most irresponsible things a parent can do,” one person replied. “I realize it was your brother but I’m sure there were better options than torturing that kid and exposing the entire wedding to an infection.”
Will pushed back on Monday, May 11, saying, “Brother it was a wedding in small town Missouri. We grew up on canola oil, cigarette smoke, and lead in our yards. Everyone’s infected with something.”
Will also reposted a message of support from one of his followers, who boasted about the population of Boone Terre, Missouri.
“As someone who grew up in Jefferson County, no one is better prepared to survive this situation than the great people of Bonne Terre,” the person wrote. “Hantavirus would die with exposure to the robustness of the immune systems on display in Bonne Terre.”
According to the CDC, hand, foot and mouth disease is a highly contagious and common illness that usually causes fever, mouth sores and skin rash. While mostly common in children under 5, it can also be contracted by adults.
Despite Scottie’s illness, Will, his wife and their daughters managed to pose for a family photo at the ceremony.
“Another female became a Compton last night!!!” Charo posted via Instagram on Sunday, May 10. “So much love to Kaitlyn + Cody, and so much good to come 🤍🤍.”
That same day, Will wished his wife of nearly five years a happy Mother’s Day on social media, sharing another picture from his brother’s wedding.
“Watching you be their mom is the best thing I get to witness — and I’m so grateful our girls get to grow up watching what a strong, loving woman looks like,” Will wrote via Instagram.
