When it comes to fashion, Alicia Keys is always ready for a risk.
"I definitely like to mix the tough and the feminine at the same time," she told Usmagazine.com at the 25 Most Stylish New Yorkers party in NYC Wednesday night.
The R&B singer — who was feted at the event, which also honored Whitney Port, Martha Stewart, The Real Housewives of New York City and Vera Wang, among others – also divulged her favorite fashion risk this fall.
"I love leather all year round!" Keys, 28, told Us. "You go for leather — you do it… You're funky, you're fly. I really like that."
Christie Brinkley echoed her sentiments.
"Fashion is something that's supposed to be fun, and when you have a miss, you've got to shrug it off and move on to the next thing," the model, 55, said.
Emmy Rossum, who says her fall must-haves include metallic nail polish and a black leather jacket, tries to have a "clean, feminine" style but admits that she's made her share of mistakes on the red carpet.
"Nobody's perfect!" she tells Us.
What do these stylish New Yorkers recommend to avoid future fashion flubs?
"Every time I try to dress like somebody else, it doesn't work," Elle Macpherson, who stars in the CW's The Beautiful Life, said. "So for all you people out there wondering what you should do and how you should dress, dress for yourself. Style is about how you wear it — and not what you wear."
