Anne Hathaway teased her next role while walking the red carpet at the 2026 Met Gala.
Hathaway, 32, wore a black strapless Michael Kors gown with plunging neckline paired with Bulgari jewels while walking up the iconic Metropolitan Museum of Art steps on Monday, May 4. The gown appeared to channel Greek mythology vibes — decorated with her character, Penelope, letting go of a bird — ahead of her role in director Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, set to be released in July.
The reference on the train of Hathaway’s dress seemingly confirmed that The Devil Wears Prada 2 press is over for the actress as she moves on to The Odyssey.
Monday marked Hathaway’s ninth appearance at the Met Gala since making her debut in 2009. The red carpet appearance comes just as Hathaway celebrated the release of The Devil Wears Prada 2, which hit theaters on Friday, May 1. The actress has been discussing fashion on the film’s press tour for days, so it’s no surprise that she came to serve at the Met. However, her new era is upon us.

While chatting with People late last month, Hathaway admitted that she’s actually “a tomboy” when it comes to clothes — despite being one of the most well-dressed women in Hollywood.
“I love that being a boy mom has really informed my fashion,” she gushed. “I have to always be able to go from a serious business meeting to, like, a basketball court. You have to be able to play pickup basketball at any point, in any outfit.”
Hathaway also disclosed the message she tells herself every morning.
“When you get dressed in the morning, dress wisely because you 100 percent are going to have a projectile thrown at you, probably by the end of breakfast,” the actress quipped. (Hathaway shares sons Jonathan, 10, and Jack, 6, with husband Adam Shulman.)
Hathaway told V Magazine in 2024 that when looking at her fashion choices, she sees herself as more of “a guest” in that world.
“I think it’d be an insult to someone whose education revolved around it, whose life revolves around it, who has done a full fashion cycle in multiple cities as opposed to just, like, getting invited to a show and an afterparty,” she said. “I think there’s a degree of stamina and schlepping involved in being a proper fashion person.”
Hathaway continued, “I mean, I’ve studied it, but it’s informal. I’m aware of the history. I love fashion photography. And I’ve been welcomed for a long time and been shown great kindness and generosity by people whose lives it is. But I’m an actress first.”
