Cardi B is living her best life! The fashion-forward rapper posted a picture on Instagram on Tuesday, November 27, showing off a plaid two-piece Balenciaga outfit (you know, the brand she raps about in her hit song “I Like It”) that was made using a 3D printer.
Captioning the post “BALENCIAGA MAMA,” the new mom looks super chic in a bespoke take on the $3,400 Hourglass Double Breasted Coat from the fashion house’s fall-winter 2018 collection. The ultra sculptural piece has a corset-like effect thanks to its exaggerated waist, and it is tailored to perfection thanks to the high-tech design process.
When the OG (read: non-double breasted) version of the outerwear first hit the runway back in March, Balenciaga creative director Demna Gvasalia employed a 3D printer to get the fit just so.
According to 3dPrintingIndustry.com, Gvasalia took 3D scans of the model’s bodies and digitally tailored the designs accordingly. From there, the scans were 3D printed, molded and cast using a lightweight foam to which the fabrics were bonded to create the finished products.
No word on whether Cardi was fitted for her topper using her own 3D scans, but the “Bodak Yellow” rapper rocks the straight-off-the-runway design with matching boots (a similar pair retails for around $1,700).
Oh, and because the head-to-toe yellow and pink plaid look just wasn’t enough, Cardi finished off the look with a giant gold-accented turquoise Hermès Birkin bag that likely cost upwards of $15,000.
