“There seems to be a lot of confusion about red carpet trends for the Globes, and I’m hearing lots of girls are having trouble making up their mind and calling for second fittings,” says celebrity stylist Vincent Boucher.
Indeed. Both Jessica Chastain (Zero Dark Thirty) and Amanda Seyfried (Les Miserables) told Us Weekly at the National Board of Review Awards Gala in NYC on Jan. 8 that they had yet to decide what they will be wearing to the Golden Globes this Sunday, Jan. 13. Chastain is nominated for Best Actress and Seyfried’s movie Les Miserables is nominated for Best Picture-Comedy or Musical.
There may be indecision among Hollywood starlets as to what to wear on the red carpet come Sunday night, but their stylists, who are paid for their taste and opinions, are far less wishy-washy.
Annie Ladino, who styles Jaime King and Brooklyn Decker and will be dressing Ariel Winter for the show, seconds the black and white prints prediction, adding that “extreme ruffles” will also play a starring role at the Globes.
TV personality and celeb stylist Robert Verdi agrees: “I think the trends that we'll see…are ruffles, ruffles, ruffles, sheer overlays, and an occasional nod to the Far East seen in a delicate origami fold of the fabric or magnificent embroidery.”
But the red carpet won’t just be a sea of ruffles and black and white prints.
Here are a sampling of the dress colors stylists think will be big this Sunday: “Electric colors and bright white,” says seasoned stylist to the stars Mary Alice Stephenson. “Pastels,” says Fremar. “Mint and turquoise,” says Ilaria Urbinati, who works with Bradley Cooper and Nina Dobrev. “Metallic and bold colors,” says Kelly Osborne’s stylist Nicholas Bru. “Red seems to be trending back —maybe a hangover from fall’s maroon and oxblood [trend],” says Boucher, who styles Stana Katic.
The one red carpet trend they may all agree on? “Sexy is in!” exclaims Stephenson. “On the red carpet we'll see lots of va-va-voom!” Jessica Biel’s stylist Estee Stanley concurs: “I think there will be a lot of beading and sexiness happening this year! I feel it!”
