Julianne Moore
Born December 3, 1960 in Fayetteville, North Carolina, Julianne Moore started her acting career in off-Broadway plays, before landing on the soap opera As the World Turns in 1985. After nabbing a Daytime Emmy Award in 1988, she moved on to film, where she was cast in supporting roles in the 1993 hit The Fugitive and the Jurassic Park sequel.
Her breakout performance came as a porn star in 1997’s Boogie Nights, for which she received Golden Globe and Academy Award nods. Moore continued to grab critic attention for her work throughout the next decade, including her role alongside Tom Cruise in 1999’s Magnolia and an Oscar-nominated turn in 1999’s The End of the Affair.
In 2002, the Boston University-educated star nabbed two Oscar nominations for her portrayal of a wronged wife in Far from Heaven and her supporting role alongside Academy Award winner Nicole Kidman and Meryl Streep in The Hours. Moore also received a Golden Globe nod for her work in 2010’s The Kids Are All Right, in which she and Annette Bening played a couple whose children go off to find their birth father.
Along with acting, Moore is an accomplished author — making her literary debut in October 2007 with the children’s book Freckleface Strawberry based on her experience as a kid. She followed that up in April 2009 with a second book titled Freckleface Strawberry and the Dodgeball Bully.
After her nine-year marriage to John Gould Rubin ended in 1995, Moore began a relationship with director Bart Freundlich in 1996. After welcoming two children together — son Caleb, who was born December 4, 1997 and daughter Liv, who was born April 11, 2002 — the pair wed on August 23, 2003.
