Born in 1970 in Washington D.C. Henson is best known for her roles as Yvette in Baby Boy, Shug in Hustle and Flow and Queenie in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

In 2005’s Hustle and Flow, Henson made her feature film vocal debut, performing Three 6 Mafia’s track “It’s Hard Out Here for a Pimp.” The song won an Academy Award for Best Song in 2006 and Henson performed the song at the Oscars in March of that same year. In 2008, she appeared opposite Brad Pitt in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, earning an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress.

In 2009, Henson was featured in Us Weekly as a Hot Hollywood Style Icon. “I love color, so even if I do all back, I’ll pop it with orange shoes or red lipstick,” the star told Us.

The actress announced on May 14, 2018, that she is engaged to former NFL player Kelvin Hayden.
