Hollywood’s pretty woman is back! Julia Roberts has been staying out of the spotlight lately, but her return to the red carpet on Monday, Sept. 9, proved she hasn’t lost any of her fashion prowess. If anything, distance from such glamorous events has only emboldened her.
The Oscar winner, who is usually a devotee of understated black gowns and pant suits, hit the premiere of her new movie, August: Osage County, at the Toronto International Film Festival, wearing a fashion-forward red Dolce & Gabbana dress that showed off her long, lean legs. She accessorized the bold, colorful frock with gold jewelry and nude patent peep-toe heels by Gucci.
Besides making a splash on the red carpet, the evening was also noteworthy because it reunited the 45-year-old actress with her My Best Friend’s Wedding costar Dermot Mulroney! (Mulroney has a part in August: Osage County.) It’s been 16 years since the pals played on-screen BFFs in the romantic comedy.
The first public screening of her new film was met with a standing ovation and has already garnered Oscar buzz. Asked on the red carpet by an interviewer, who was filming live for TV, if her performance was inspired by her own life, she retorted, “Well, my mother is not a drunken b—-.”
Oops! “You just said that this was live — I’m so sorry! I shouldn’t have said that,” she apologized. (Meryl Streep plays her painkillers-addicted mother in the film).
