In case we forgot that Kate Middleton is, in fact, both a princess and the Duchess of Cambridge, she has one easy way to remind us — wearing a diamond-embellished tiara.

For the state visit by China’s president on Oct. 20, Middleton selected one of Queen Elizabeth‘s favorite accessories: the Lotus Flower Tiara. The pearl and diamond stunner was created from a necklace gifted to the Queen Mother from Bertie, the future George VI. She eventually gave the tiara to Princess Margaret, who, in turn, frequently wore it throughout her life.

The first images of the evening show the mom to Prince George, 2, and Princess Charlotte, 5 months, sitting in the backseat of a Bentley Flying Spur beside Prince William, dashing in a formal white tie. Middleton stunned in a red Jenny Packham gown with her hair swept into a low chignon. The standout accessory is, of course, the ornate heirloom.

The Duchess’ selection of her dress and the Lotus Flower Tiara keeps in line with Middleton’s penchant to dress in theme. Red is a symbol of good luck while the lotus flower suggests faithfulness in Chinese tradition.

The evening’s dinner marks the first time a Chinese president has visited since 2005. According to the BBC, President Xi Jinping hopes to “lift UK-China relations to ‘a new height.'”
