Michelle Obama wants you to get out and vote! For Night 1 of the Democratic National Convention on August 17, 2020, the 56-year-old accessorized her outfit in the most appropriate way possible: with a 14-karat gold VOTE necklace by the beloved Black-owned jewelry brand, By Chari.
She paired the design with large hoop earrings and a long-sleeved brown silk Nanushka blouse. During the Becoming author’s keynote speech, viewers got an up-close look at the necklace, which is still available if you want to twin with the former first lady.
Obama’s specific necklace costs $405 because she ordered “Large Letter” version. It’s available in rose gold, yellow gold and white. You can also personalize it so that the letters are smaller or encrusted with diamonds if you want to take it to the next level.
By Chari was founded in 2012 by Chari Cuthbert. Since its launch, the L.A.-based brand has acquired a large celebrity following, including Kate Hudson, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Chiara Ferragni.
“I had created a VOTE necklace for the last election and knew I was going to do it again,” said Cuthbert in a statement. “As we started our outreach, I was honored when Michelle Obama’s Stylist asked for one and am thrilled she is wearing it!”
The brand posted a photo of the VOTE necklace in November 2018. “I rarely voice my political views on social media, but there is too much at risk for us as women and individuals to not do our part,” they wrote in the caption, ahead of the midterm election.
Now, two years later, the internet — Twitter especially — is losing it over Obama’s civic duty-inspired accessory. “Someone find me Michelle Obama’s VOTE necklace immediately please,” tweeted one social media user. “I need to wear it every day for the rest of my life.”
There were hundreds, if not thousands of more tweets about the By Chari design. It’s likely that many people across the country relate to this one: “I saw Michelle Obama wearing a vote necklace, so I bought a vote necklace.”
