North West was in NYC with her mom and dad and a few friends on Friday, June 15, celebrating her fifth birthday, and the budding street style star looked all grown up with her straight hair and I Dream of Jeannie-inspired ponytail. Mama Kim Kardashian shared the pic of her eldest daughter in her Instagram Story with the caption “serving look on her [fifth] birthday,” and we’d have to agree that Northie’s pony and fierce gaze combo is something else.
From cascading ringlets to cool braids, coiled pigtails to Pebbles-like topknots, we are used to seeing Saint and Chicago’s older sister have fun with different hair styles, but this is the first time we’ve seen Kim’s mini-me rock a straight ‘do. While some have speculated that the longer locks may be the handiwork of hairpieces or extensions — and others have even taken to social media to express concern over the potential damage done to the youngster’s hair during the straightening process — all we know is that the birthday girl’s mom loves to show off her own waist-grazing tresses, so it was only a matter of time before her daughter would give the strands a whirl as well.
But rather than step out in Kim’s signature center-parter look, the newly minted five-year-old stayed true to her own fab athleisurewear aesthetic (seriously, the girl knows how to kill it in a tracksuit), and opted to fasten her mane into a super high ponytail. And, of course, that wasn’t all. North finished off the updo with a tightly woven Dutch braid at the crown.
Paired with her bubblegum pink windbreaker, matching shorts and pastel green sneakers, North looked like she could (stylishly) tackle anything from a game of tag on the playground to a round of present shopping with ease, which sounds like the ideal way to spend a birthday, if you ask Us.
