So cozy! On October 27, Pippa Middleton and James Mathews were photographed together for the first time since announcing their engagement in July.
Middleton, 33, held on tightly to the financier’s arm as they walked their dogs. The sister of Duchess Kate wrapped up in a classic mid-length trench coat by Superdry, over pale pink skinny jeans and low-top black sneakers. Her sparkling vintage-inspired engagement ring gleamed on her left hand. Matthews, 41, wore a dark gray jacket with the collar turned up along with a pair of dark-wash straight leg jeans and tan shoes.
Matthews popped the question during a July vacation in the Lake District of northwest England. “It was romantic and absolutely perfect,” a source tells Us Weekly. “James put a lot of thought into it.”
Matthews and Middleton later confirmed the news in a statement. ”Miss Pippa Middleton and Mr. James Matthews are delighted to announce they became engaged on Sunday, July 17 and plan to marry next year,” the couple told the Press Association.
Casual outings like their walk are likely normal for the two, as Middleton insists that she’s not as fancy as some assume. “People see me as someone privileged who has used my position to advantage; that I don’t really work, that I am a socialite — that word really irritates me — and that I’m a party girl without any substance,” the Heartfelt author told the Daily Mail in September.
But luckily, Matthews is down for the ride. “There’s always something cropping up and that has to be managed on my own,” she noted. “It’s been a real eye-opener for James. There have been quite a few hurdles to negotiate.”
