Just weeks after being hospitalized for a several days, Sarah Hyland was home celebrating the 4th of July, and, on her Instagram Story, the Modern Family star shared a bikini selfie with the caption “#ScarsOnDisplay.” Posing in a mismatched black and white Arizona Daphne two piece, the marks from the actress’ 2012 kidney transplant were visible in the snap.
Sarah has always been open about her lifelong struggle with kidney dysplasia (a condition in which one or both kidneys fail to develop normally) and other health issues that have led to complications including swelling and weight fluctuations. In 2012, she underwent a kidney transplant (her dad was her donor) after dealing with the renal issues since birth. In 2017, she shared that she “[hadn’t] had the best year” health-wise and called out body shamers criticizing her appearance. “I don’t mind when you say that I look pregnant. Or fat. Because I know that my face is swollen from medication that is saving my life,” she said at the time.
While it is unknown why Sarah was in the hospital last month, she did post a pic of her swollen face for #NationalSelfieDay on June 21 and got real about her health. “Sometimes a selfie is more than just a good angle or feelin cute. This time for #NationalSelfieDay, I’ve decided to share my truth. As painful as it is,” the actress captioned the snap. “So here is my face that was torn from work against my will. But I’m very grateful it was. Health should always come first #stayhealthymyfriends.”
Fortunately, Sarah now seems to be on the mend. Just last week, she posted a cute selfie from the gym saying she’d been medically cleared to workout with the caption “strong > skinny.” And, if her Independence Day bikini is an indication, it seems like she’s continuing to feel better.
Looking glowing and strong, the actress was lounging in a pretty coral lipstick and oversized frames and rocking a cute suit. While the reversible white Arizona Daphne Dallas Tie Top she is seen wearing is sold out, the $79 style comes in variety of other ’70s-inspired shades (think: “mustard” yellow, “clay” red and “jungle” green) that are still available. And it’s hard to tell for sure, but it looks like the 27-year-old beauty was wearing the sexy $69 Valerie Bottoms in black to complete the mix-and-match style.Go back into the Us Weekly archives and revisit some of the best bombshell stories, riveting feuds and couplings with our new podcast “#TBT!”
