Creepy—but gorgeous!
Marc Jacobs just unveiled Cher as the face of the fashion house’s Fall 2015 collection—but as it turns out, she won’t be the only face. The American label revealed via Instagram on Thursday, June 4, that Willow Smith will also be modeling the autumnal threads.
In the first ad image, which accompanied the announcement, Will and Jada‘s 14-year-old daughter is dressed up like a steampunk princess in a black lace dress with sheer panels and a metallic bodice, teamed with a jacquard coatdress. Black gloves, lace-up block heels, and a long belt, draped like a sword, complete the ensemble.
For those who consider the choice a surprising one, Jacobs, the designer, shared these thoughts: “Ever since our first Juergen Teller ad in 1998 which featured Kim Gordon on stage wearing my dress, I have always preferred collaborating with the people who inspire me to give new life to the clothes we show on our runway.”
“Beauty, style, and talent know no age,” Jacobs, who also designed for Louis Vuitton until 2013, went on. “It is those individuals whose creativity, unique vision, and voice inspire all of us here to create and express ourselves through our medium: fashion.”
“This season’s ads feature friends, each of whom evoke a sense of intrigue and inspiration, and collectively provoke a true consideration for individuality. Here today I would like to share (not CHER) with you first, the talented, stylish, and charming Willow Smith,” he wrote, finishing his thoughts with a “Stay tuned…”
As Jacobs listed in his long note, both Smith and Cher join a long list of famous, fabulous faces who have modeled for the label in the past, including (but not limited to) Victoria Beckham, Sofia Coppola, Miley Cyrus, Dakota Fanning, Jessica Lange, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Kate Moss, and Winona Ryder.
