Katie Couric Biography

Katie Couric is an award-winning TV host, news anchor and author. Born on January 7, 1957, in Arlington, Virginia, Couric began her career in 1979 at the ABC News bureau in Washington, D.C. A decade later, she joined NBC News as Deputy Pentagon Correspondent.

From 1989 to 1991, she was an anchor substitute and filled in front TODAY hosts Bryant Gumbel, Jane Pauley and Deborah Norville (among others). Couric was promoted to permanent co-anchor on April 5, 1991 -- a position she held for 15 years. In September 2006, Couric made history when she became the first female to anchor a primetime broadcast on CBS Evening News. When her contract expired in June 2011, Couric walked away from the program.

Couric is a special correspondent for ABC News. In 2012, she launched her own daily talk show, Katie.

The journalist's husband, Jay Monahan, died of colon cancer at age 42 in 1998. They shared two daughters: Ellie (born in July 1991) and Carrie (born in January 1996). Since then, Couric has been romantically linked to sitcom producer Tom Werner, financial executive Brooks Perlin and investment banker John Molner.
