Alicia Keys is known for her soulful ballads and charitable endeavors, but it's her role as a mom that truly gives her life purpose.

The singer -- who turns 31 Wednesday -- welcomed son Egypt Daoud Ibarr with husband Swizz Beatz in October 2010. Since the arrival of her first biological child, Keys has taken a break from music to focus on raising her baby boy.

"He's walking now and laughing," she told Us Weekly in November 2011. "He laughs all the time and he wants to get you to laugh. He's also starting to remember people. It's really amazing watching him grow."

@Jade Ali, do you think you could be any LESS positive? Anyway I'm glad Alicia is enjoying motherhood. She seems really happy. And, I didn't think she took a break from music for motherhood but for other endeavors like producing and directing while being with her child. I think she balances motherhood and career very well.

I'm surprised she and that toucan looking husband of her have made it this long. I give it another two years before he's knocked up two women outside of their marriage. Dumb Alicia will stay no matter what because she's desperate!
