Talk about patience!
Camila Alves is making her boyfriend Matthew McConaughey wait 40 days before having sex so she can recover from giving birth to their second child, three-week-old baby girl Vida.

"Where I come from, we believe in something we call a 40-day break after the baby," the Brazilian model and mother of two -- they also have 18-month-old son Levi -- tells StyleList. "You have to let your body do its own thing. You give it time to recover and let everything settle down."

She adds: "You kind of respect all the hard work your body has just done and give it a break. For these 40 days, you really take it easy. By that I mean no sex, light, healthy food, no trips to the gym. Then, after 40 days, you are good to go."

Although the Shear Genius host says the reprieve -- which is a typical recommendation for most new moms -- "is nice" because "there is not so much pressure" to rush back into anything, she is starting to struggle.
Unfortunately for McConaughey, it's not the sex she misses most.
"I confess, I am getting a little anxious to workout. I miss it," she says. "Not just to get my body back in shape, but for me, for my head!"

So when are the 40 days up? Vida was born Jan. 3, which means McConaughey has to hold out until Feb. 12 -- just in time for Valentine's Day!

74ok...doesn't EVERY woman wait 6 weeks? At least that's what my doctor told me to do..actually 8 weeks because if my C-Section.
Does anyone actually have sex as soon as six weeks after birth? Six month, in my experience, is more like it!
Oh, yuk.
Good thing I didn't grow up in Brazil. My husband and I started having sex again 3 days postpartum.
I have to comment like other readers have. It is a normal guideline that ALL of our doctors give us. No serious exercise or sex for 6 weeks. DUH!! Do your freaking research before you write an article!!
Why is she acting like she "invented" waiting 40 days to have sex after having a baby? Newsflash - this is what every doctor tells a woman - 6 wks. Duh!!! Come on. Maybe this explains why she is with this d*ouche.
well, i guess there's nothing better to write about
This is the silliest article I have ever read!!!
This is news, why? Also where is the sense of privacy. No one needs to know this personal information. Let's start thinking before we talk about something so personal.
Um... this is doctor's orders and coming from a recent new mommy; a medical necessity, especially if there was tearing or an episiotimy. I can't believe this was newsworthy.
I gave birth the 6th and started working out 12 days post-partum. Following a normal vag. delivery you can do "activity as tolerated", as long as your flow doesn't increase, you're good to go. Sex is to be avoided for at least 4 wks b/c of risk of infection + not being fully healed. I do miss swimming, which I can't do till my check up the 17th, I almost wanna ask if I can go in a 4 wks p.p. to get the go-ahead to swim! I've felt fine early after this pgncy. It's all about your acitivity level + staying in shape during pgcny, and your difficulty of delivery.
isn't that what you are suppose to do ? wait about 6 weeks? this is not news?
That's the norm for most women who've had babies. I agree with her, but it's not a newsworthy new concept.
US Weekly didn't "twist her words". The article even states that the reprieve "is a typical recommendation for most new moms..." The mag merely decided that her words were worth repeating to the public -- everyone likes to f*ck with Matthew McConaughey.
That's a pretty standard practice in the muslim world. Typically women stay at their parents house during this 40 day period and are pampered by their mothers.
Geez what a strange culture she comes from. 40 days is right around 6 weeks...
I am from Brazil and I agree with Camila, when a woman gives birth she has to let her body take a break and just enjoy this precious moment.

Wow what a way to twist someones words around US WEEKLY! You guys are getting more pathetic by the day. @ Chris 12:11pm if you have ever been around someone that has had a child you would know that the body MUST heal before a woman is able to have sex again. 1) the woman is usually cut when pushing starts so that the baby's head and shoulders are able to come out b/c you only dialate so far and then she is stitched back up. The stitches usually dissolve in 3-6 weeks and the perrinum finishes healing. 2) the uterus has to return to normal size and heal from having carrying a child (ie get rid of all of the lining that a woman builds up for 9 mths meaning a woman usually bleeds for 4-6 weeks after birth like she would on her period only it is longer). 3) the cervix must return to normal size to prevent infection from getting into the body. So 6 weeks or 40 days is actually NORMAL for ALL women after child birth. So now maybe you will understand why a woman can not have sex with in a few days of delivering a child. If you still don't understand maybe you should google pregnancy and delivery and get some information on it before you comment on a thread that you know NOTHING about and look like a complete jackasS.
6 weeks is standard. The uterus has to heal, as the placenta leaves an open wound on the uterus when it seperates after birth. You can actually die from air being forced into your bloodstream during sex if it is not healed. So, no news, just safety precautions. There's your TMI for the day..
