The online shopping service first hosted the 24-hour promotional sale exclusively for Amazon Prime subscribers last July to commemorate the site’s 20th anniversary. According to NBC News, Amazon sold 34.4 million items (398 items per second!) during its inaugural Prime Day, breaking every previous Black Friday record.
