Update: Teen Mom's Amber Portwood Attempts Suicide

Police in Anderson, Indiana have confirmed that Teen Mom star Amber Portwood attempted to commit suicide Tuesday morning.

"Late this morning (11:34 a.m.), Anderson Police responded to a call at a residence in the 1300 block of Pleasant Meadow Drive," a police statement (obtained via Radar Online) reads. "According to the caller, Portwood was depressed and threatening to end her life. The victim, who did not appear to be injured, was transported to a local medical facility for further evaluation."
A rep for MTV tells Us Weekly in a statement, "Our understanding is that Amber has been admitted to a local hospital, but we have not been able to confirm the accuracy of any reports being circulated and are waiting for further details. Our thoughts are with her and we hope to hear more soon."

Portwood is currently being evaluated at St. John's Hospital; according to a source, her on-off boyfriend Gary Shirley, 24, visited her briefly Tuesday afternoon.

Portwood, 21, has endured a lot in the past few months. In December 2010, the MTV reality star was charged with two felony counts of domestic battery, one felony count of neglect of a dependent and one misdemeanor count of domestic battery stemming for striking Shirley in front of their 2-year-old daughter, Leah.

I believe Amber is catching a bad rap in light of the emotional and psychological abuse that she suffers at the hands of Gary. Since the pregnancy, Gary insists that he loves her and wants his family and in the same breath, he is extremely manipulative, selfish, and threatening - and threatens to take Leah from her "forever". Being a mother is stressful when planned but the shell-shock of an unexpected pregnancy magnifies the situation. Compounded with a passive-aggressive, angry, and manipulative baby's father and a distant mother, Amber is left vunerable to the mistakes she's made and the psychological state she's in. Her support system is virtually non-existent. Does this excuse her behavior towards Gary and Leah? No. But let's call a spade a spade. Gary is just as abusive as Amber, his type of abuse is different and is accepted, tolerated, and ignored in our society. The scars from this type of abuse can last a lifetime and trust me, his daughter is learning and suffering just as much from him. And don't get me started on Gary's friend who's whole goal is to tear Gary's family apart....I think she needs to leave the show.
Amber is selfish and doesn't care if she keeps her daughter or not. Amber probably didn't really try to commit suicide she just wanted attention! Suicide is selfish anyway! If she really wanted to, she would have done it and not just called around telling people about it for attention so they could come save her. That is just one more THING that will go on her record and will eventually help to get her out of Leah's life for good.

Anyone ever think about the TV show that's making money off exploiting these KIDS and their situations? Because that's what this is. Kids having kids. I don't condone domestic violence - but when you throw a TV crew in with people trying to be young parents, work, get an education AND raise a young child, this is what you get. Of course this would have all been prevented with using protection but COME ON PEOPLE! There are kids out there being subjected to far worse by their crack addicted abusive parents and you don't see anyone breaking down their doors to protect THEM. Give the girl a break - EVERY parent does the best they can do in their situations and unfortunately, this is a far too common outcome for teen mum's.

Why isn't anyone worried about this child. Get her away from these unstable parents! I really don't care about mom and dad. I want to know why this poor little girl is still living with these parents. What more has to happen before they take her from them? This little girl has endured enough and it is about time they stop paying so much attention to the parents and start deciding what they are going to do for this little girl.
