Stars without makeup! Ellen DeGeneres had a big surprise for her wife, Portia de Rossi, on her show on Wednesday, Sept. 23 — one that de Rossi probably won’t forget anytime soon.
The talk show host, 57, kicked off the segment by telling the audience that she and de Rossi, 42, often take photos of each other, as couples are wont to do.
But, DeGeneres revealed, she has a reason to take plenty of photos beyond the fact that de Rossi is so “pretty.”
“She has hair that is very, very thick, so there are hairstyles on her that I go, ‘I just have to take a picture of this!’” DeGeneres said, sharing the first in a series of embarrassing photos of the Arrested Development actress on bad hair days, sans makeup.
“Oh my god!” de Rossi exclaimed, doubling over in laughter, looking mortified.
Among DeGeneres’ large collection of hilarious snaps were pictures of de Rossi with post-massage bedhead, with a windblown coif and aviator sunglasses, and with mouth agape while wearing a puffy jacket.
“I’m sick, that’s awful!” de Rossi said in reaction to the last photo, later teasing DeGeneres, “There’s something called Instagram, I’ll get you back.”
The fun-loving pair, who celebrated their seventh wedding anniversary in August, have been together since December 2004, and recently even stepped out in matching styles for New York Fashion Week.
Rumors that their marriage is rocky circulated earlier this year, but DeGeneres isn’t fazed by the negative attention.
“We’re kind of flattered [by the breakup rumors], because for a while no one cared about us, and we thought, ‘Oh, lesbians aren’t worthy of tabloid stories!” she joked with Howard Stern while visiting his SiriusXM radio show in early September. “We’re kind of flattered that they even care about us.”
