Eva Mendes: Marriage Is "Very Unsexy"

Don't expect Eva Mendes to be walking down the aisle anytime soon.
In a Wednesday night appearance on Chelsea Lately, the 37-year-old actress explained why marriage is not for her.

"I'm not like anti-marriage or the institution, like for other people," Mendes told Chelsea Handler, 36. "And I love the idea of a union -- that's all very beautiful. But I think, you know, it's a very old fashioned, archaic kind of thing. We did it for land originally. How unromantic is that?"
"Well actually," Handler quipped. "If we were doing it for land now, I'd probably be more interested."
"I actually think it's really sexy to be with someone in your fifties and sixties and be like, 'That's my boyfriend,'" Mendes added. "I think husband and wife is just… very unsexy."

So will Mendes, who's dated her Peruvian filmmaker beau George Augusto since 2002, never get married? "Well no, because, it's not personal, it's just the institution… Why? If you love someone and you have a spiritual union, I just personally don't think [I need] a piece of paper because society tells me [is necessary]."
The Hitch star also isn't a fan of "all these wedding shows."

"It's just so over the top," she said. "It's so not about what it should be about."

We did it originally because God ordained it..not just for land. I think marriage and commitment is incredibly sexy! She is the frontrunner for the show "Celebrities say the dumbest things"...she is entering Gisele levels of ignorant...
Marriage is a huge responsibility, and some people just can't handle a commitment of that size or depth.

There is a lot more to a relationship then sex, and besides any relationship, married or not, will have sex become somewhat routine. In marriage, other things are included. Evidently, no one wants this one. It is fine to choose to be single, but she has no clue about marriage, never being in one.
Either she is too old and no one wants to marry her or she doesn't know the true meaning of love. Marriage is what you make it, if you're boring it's going to be boring.
i think is bull what shes saying. sometimes when you are married people respect u & not try ro hit at you because they know u got a ring on your finger. i think shes afraid of marriage not lasting or who will tae the more money at last if theirs a divorce.
Another mindless celebrity, who has no clue. She isn't married, so how does she know. ANY long term relationship changes,and hopefully better things come into play. She must be having trouble having a man fall in love with her, and want to be with her for a long time.

Marriage is so much more than "a piece of paper"! It's very sad and just goes to show how people are straying farther and farther away...
It's a shame people like her feel that way. Since it's a lifetime commitment...maybe she doesnt feel like she can fully commit to one person, who knows. Im a newly, engaged woman and Im looking forward to the day of marrying my fiance next year. I think marriage is a beautiful union, not institution.

@Vanessa Marshall I agree Ms Mendes is a vapid talentless cold hearted snake of a woman if oscar winning director Tony Richardson were still alive and married to Vanessa Redgrave they'd celebrate their 50th anniversary 29th April 2012 as Lawrence Olivier and Joan Plowright would've earlier this year. Ms Mendes needs to keep her trap shut nobody cares what she thinks.
