Director Brett Morgan spoke to Us Weekly at the event, saying, “First Courtney was involved, then Frances became involved. Frances Bean is really why we’re all here. This movie is for her. Frances and I shared the exact same vision about what this film should be, everybody came on board.”

The Hole singer married Cobain in February 1992 and in August of that year, Frances was born. After a Vanity Fair article in which Love admitted to using heroin while pregnant, the Los Angeles County Department of Children’s Services took the couple to court. Frances was removed from their care for four weeks, but was later reunited with her parents after an agreement was made that the Cobains would take regular drug tests. In 1994 Cobain committed suicide at the age of 27.
