Pro golfer Bill Haas and actor Luke Wilson were involved in a fatal multi-car accident in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood of Los Angeles on Tuesday, February 13.
The Los Angeles Police Department told the Associated Press that Haas, 35, was a passenger in a Ferrari that collided with a BMW around 6:30 p.m. PT along North Chautauqua Boulevard. The driver of the overturned Ferrari, Mark Gibello, was killed. The driver of the BMW, a 50-year-old woman, was hospitalized in serious condition.
Haas’ manager told the news agency that the six-time PGA Tour winner was also treated at a local hospital and has since been released. According to the manager, Haas was “shaken up” in the aftermath of the crash and has decided to withdraw from this week’s Genesis Open in L.A. He plans to return home to Greenville, South Carolina, to recover.
Gibello was a member of the family with whom Haas was staying ahead of the Genesis Open. “His deepest condolences go out to the host family during this tragic and difficult time,” the athlete’s agent said in a statement to ESPN.
The LAPD told the AP that Wilson, 46, was driving a third vehicle that was also clipped by the Ferrari. He did not suffer any injuries.
